Dheera, a young man from Punjab, arrives in the UK to stay with his friends Balli and Jassa. His family back home urges him to earn money and support them, but Dheera starts working on a construction site with a Pakistani co-worker, Goga, under the strict contractor Saleem.
One fateful night at a nightclub, Dheera meets a deceitful character named Kaala, who convinces him to move to a larger house. Unbeknownst to Dheera, the house is haunted by a ghostly family comprising Steve, Basant Kaur, and their son Jagga. At first, the ghosts try to scare Dheera away, but he remains undeterred.
Kaala introduces Dheera to a woman willing to enter a contract marriage with him for permanent residency status. Simultaneously, Dheera befriends a man named Pamma in the park, unaware that Pamma is also a ghost.
Confusion arises when Dheera brings Goga to his new house, leading to a confrontation between Goga and the ghost family. Concerned about Dheera's mental state, Goga takes him to see a doctor. Dheera continues to meet the contract bride, and their affection grows, but he eventually discovers that he is cohabiting with ghosts, which terrifies him. Goga seeks help from a ghost buster Baba, but both Goga and Baba are attacked by the ghosts when they visit Dheera's house. The ghosts warn Dheera not to anger them, particularly Basant Kaur, hinting at an undisclosed goal.
Over time, the ghost family forms an emotional bond with Dheera, especially Basant Kaur, who hails from Punjab. She shares her story with Dheera. In pre independent India, during the British rule, Steve visited to India to write a book. There he met with Basant Kaur and they both started liking each other and eventually got married. Basant Kaur came to England after the marriage but she was so naïve with the sophisticated things and modern lifestyle that she caused an accident with the domestic gas and the whole house was caught in fire claiming their lives. Now, Steve had that book unfinished and he died before the last chapter which he wanted to write on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh could be com0leted. So, now their wish is to go back to Punjab.
Dheera promises to take the ghost family back to Punjab, but he decides to end his relationship with the contract bride due to financial constraints. However, she professes her love for him and proposes marriage, which Dheera gladly accepts. He also learns that Pamma is a ghost with a desire to visit his village in Punjab for once.
Dheera fulfills his promise and takes the ghost family to Punjab, where his wedding takes place, and everyone enjoys the festivities. Dheera then takes the ghost family to Bhagat Singh's village, helping them attain salvation and finally find peace.
