FILMS
What do the film ratings stand for?
- [G] - General
- [PG] - Parental Guidance recommended
- [M] - Recommended for mature audiences
- [MA15+] - Not suitable for people under 15. Under 15s must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Patrons may be requested to present photo identification which states their date of birth.
- [R18+] - Restricted to 18 and over. Patrons may be requested to present photo identification which states their date of birth.
- [TBC] - This film has yet to be classified. Check the rating closer to the release date
Consumer advice is also provided on all classified films so you know what content may be in the film. For more information regarding the classification of films, please visit The Office Of Film & Literature Classification website - www.oflc.gov.au.
Why aren't all cinemas screening arthouse/fine films?
Distributors often prefer to release these types of films into a limited number of select cinemas, usually in inner-city areas. This is partly to maintain the exclusivity of a film but also to reduce the costs involved in reprinting each film. A single print of a film costs more than $2,000 and it is often difficult for a film distributor to recover this cost at suburban or rural locations.
What proof of identification is required if I want to see an MA15+ or R18+ rated film?
As mentioned, you must be aged 15 years or older to attend an MA15+ rated film and be aged 18 years or older to attend an R18+ rated film. You may need to provide photo identification that states your date of birth upon request.
Why has the release date for a movie changed or why is it no longer in the Coming Soon section?
We endeavour to promote movies that are currently screening and those that are coming out in the next two months according to the film distributors. On occasion, we are advised by distributors that they must delay the release of some titles or that some anticipated films will be straight-to-video releases. We then update the Website accordingly to keep you informed of the change.
